One Day Bathroom Makeover
So, is it possible to take on a one day bathroom makeover? I mean really, can we do a complete bathroom remodel in a single day?
Well, take a look at this project I took on in the Southpointe Condo flip, and see what you think. It turns out that a one day bathroom remodel can be done, if you’re wise with the bathroom renovations you choose to tackle.
The Southpointe Condo was one of our real estate projects. You can view all of the renovation projects I undertook in this condo here. And, you can also learn about the real estate investment, the cost of the remodel, and the profit made. You can view other investment projects by clicking on the “projects” tab in the menu bar above. A Small Bathroom Remodel: Turning a Tiny Space Into the Bathroom of Your Dreams
When faced with a small bathroom in need of some serious TLC, it can feel like creating the bathroom of your dreams is out of reach. But as I recently discovered with my own renovation project, even a tight budget and a little creativity can result in a stunning transformation. My goal was to take a 5×8 small bathroom and give it a fresh new look, proving that a complete bathroom makeover doesn’t have to break the bank.
With careful planning, thoughtful design choices, and a weekend of focused effort, I turned this outdated space into a beautiful bathroom for just $650. Here’s how I did it—and how you can too.

The bathroom
So, here’s where I was starting. As you can see it was just an average bathroom. I’m sure you’ve seen many like this one. Just a bit dated, but functional.
But definitely boring. So, the challenge was to remodel it, while staying on a budget.
Now, before I show you the after photo. think about what you’d do to update this bathroom. What would be the one-day bathroom remodel options that come to mind?
A New Vision for a New Bathroom
This project began with a vision: creating a bright, welcoming new bathroom without major structural changes or professional labor. The old vanity and “beige everywhere” made the space feel dark and cramped, and it was clear the room needed a bathroom update.
Fortunately, in this bathroom, I didn’t have an old tub to worry about. This bathroom just had a shower and the tile surround was in good condition. However, it was also…..you guessed it….beige.
I mean, I like beige, but geez. This wasn’t even a pretty beige.
It was just dark beige-ish.
Small Changes That Made a Big Impact
1. Brightening the Walls
To brighten the space, I used this peel-and-stick wallpaper with a light pattern. This small change instantly made the room feel larger and more inviting. For the lower half of the walls, I added pre-made molding panels and painted them white, creating a classic, clean look. These touches added instant elegance without the hefty price tag of custom millwork.
These were major upgrades that took, seriously no time at all. And it’s something that doesn’t require years of experience. The wallpaper was truly so easy to install, and attaching the millwork and adding white paint for the bottom half of the wall took maybe an hour or two. These two projects are perfect for a one day bathroom makeover.
I highly recommend using a bold wallpaper in smaller bathrooms, it actually makes them feel larger.
2. Updating the Shower Area
The shower area was another key focus. While some homeowners might consider a full shower replacement, I opted to paint the existing tiles, giving them a fresh new look. Painting saved time and money, proving to be a great alternative to installing a custom tile shower or new shower systems.
I did replace the shower head. You’ll be shocked at how easy that is. I have a short tutorial on that here. The fixture I used for my shower head was only $20 and it was a beautiful rainfall showerhead.
Now, painting does take time, because you’ll want to do two coats. I recommend that you start with a coat first thing in the morning so that it has time to dry, and then do your final coat at the very end of the day (so you don’t have to smell the fumes while you’re in the bathroom working).
For those considering a more extensive remodel, options like walk-in showers, shower liners, or tub-to-shower conversions can transform a bathroom into a luxurious space. These features not only improve the user experience but also increase the value of your home. But, I find them to be expensive, so you’ll need to decide based on your budget.
If you do have an old tub:
You’ll need to decide on whether to replace the existing tub or work with what’s already there and avoid having to remove and replace it. you also have the option of using one of the tub liner companies, but they are super expensive. I have had great success in the past using specialized paint (the same as the one for the shower tile), it gives the appearance of a new tub at a fraction of the average cost.
3. New Flooring
Flooring is often one of the most expensive parts of a bathroom remodel, but in this case, the small bathroom size worked in my favor. I installed click-and-lock vinyl planks, requiring only one box to cover the space. This cost-effective solution added a polished look with minimal effort.
And it doesn’t take long. You can incorporate this into a well planned one day bathroom makeover.
4. Vanity and Fixtures
A navy vanity became the focal point of the room, offering both style and storage space. Paired with a modern faucet and a rainfall showerhead, the updated fixtures gave the room a sophisticated feel. The best part? These upgrades came with a manageable price tag.
A note about the vanity–it looks more expensive than it is. Usually when you get into specialty colors, the price tag goes up. But if you search on Home Depot, you’ll find this blue one comes on sale every now and again.
Light fixture
The new light fixture went up, hard to believe it only cost $40!
and then all I needed to do was add the modern new faucet that I purchased online for approx $50
5. The Mirror
Buying a new mirror of this size can be expensive and difficult to install in a one day bathroom remodel. My mirror wasn’t in bad shape, so I simply added some texture to the bathroom and some visual interest around the mirror using some leftover shiplap pieces.
The pieces were small so I could not use them in the traditional horizontal way. I decided to place them vertically along the top and bottom of the mirror I didn’t measure them with a measuring tape instead I measured them right in place so that I could make sure they’d fit snugly and securely against the mirror.
If you have a mirror that you’d like to keep, but that may have some damage on the edges, check out this other mirror upgrade project which produced a super cool effect and upgrade.
I added some decorative touches to the bathroom bringing in a little bit of color with these pink hand towels I also added a fluffy bath towel and a towel which I embroidered with the initials for the name of this condo flip I’m working on and it was done I hope you love the way it turned out just as much as I did the cost on this project for me was approximately $650
The Value of a Bathroom Renovation
Whether you’re working on a master bathroom or a smaller bathroom, a thoughtful renovation can significantly impact the value of your home. In today’s real estate market, a well-designed bathroom is a major selling point for home buyers.
For those looking to save on labor costs, DIY projects like this one are an excellent way to stretch your budget. However, for more extensive updates, partnering with local experts or certified installers can ensure a seamless process. Services like Bath Fitter or Bath Planet offer professional one-day remodel options for homeowners seeking convenience and efficiency. But again, I find them to be too expensive.
Where I do use a handyman is when it comes to projects I really don’t feel comfortable taking on myself. Such as the electrical and plumbing. I have the handyman install new lighting to upgrade the look and feel and brightness (since LED is so much brighter than traditional lighting). I also have him put the plumbing together. This is a job I don’t feel comfortable doing on my own.
