Patios, Parties, Pillows, and Pocketed Purses!

It’s the perfect time to add your own personal touch to your outdoor space with easy summer crafts. These easy crafts are a great way to try out some new DIY projects and level-up your home decor. No matter your skill level, you’ll find something there to spruce up your outdoor areas.

There’s a cool idea for your patio umbrella. You’ll also find an easy DIY project to help you create a custom summer style tablecloth for your backyard barbecues or pool parties. If you have a sewing machine then you can also create great looking outdoor pillows in just minutes. And you’ll love the beach bags tutorial, perfect for your beach towels and gathering what the entire family needs for a fun summer outing. Have a small outdoor patio? There’s also a creative way to use really inexpensive materials to create summer beachy vibes in this great activity.

I’ll also show you a summer kitchen I created in my own home.

Here are some of my favorite projects, and I hope you’ll have as much fun with them as I have.

DIY Fringe Umbrella Project

This is a great project that the whole family will end up enjoying, as it keeps you all sheltered from the summer heat in style.

fringe umbrella

In this fun project, I added fringe to a basic patio umbrella and really dressed it up. You can follow the step-by-step instructions here and adapt it to your patio decor as you create your own version. (No hot glue gun required on this one!)

DIY Summer Tablecloth

I created this tablecloth for a 4th of July celebration, but you can use different colors and fabrics that pair perfectly with your summer theme. You can pair these easy summer DIYs by playing the tablecloth off of the fringe umbrella that you just created!

Kids of all ages enjoy fun and bright colors, as well all do when it comes to summer-themed crafts and long summer days. So be creative! Find a fun print with brightly colored fish, or something sweet and crisp like yellow lemons on a white background. Or a beautiful flower filled pattern. Anything goes when it comes to colors in these fun summer crafts.

Outdoor Pillows Project

One of my favorite creative summer crafts is this one! During these long hot summer days, we find ourselves sitting outside by the pool enjoying the warm weather (and hopefully some ice cream), on our outdoor sofa. In just 15 minutes, I can create custom outdoor pillows. These are another fun way to bring my summer style outside.

Be sure to use outdoor fabric on this one, so they’ll hold up in any bad weather and will also resist fading in the hot sun.

Pocketed Oversized Beach Bag

Another of my favorite fun summer craft ideas is creating your own beach bag. This one does involve a bit more time and skill, but I’m really just a very basic sewer, so don’t be afraid to try this as a new hobby or fun activity. If I can do it, you definitely can. Just follow the step-by-step instructions and photos and you’ll a new skill conquered in no time, and it may just become one your favorite fun summer projects.

This beach bag can be customized to complement not just your favorite summer theme, but also your summer wardrobe or favorite beach cover up. The pocket makes it very convenient for me to carry my license and credit card, so that they’re easily handy.

You can customize the size of the bag, but if you use the same size that I did, you can easily fit 4 beach towels, sun screens and tanning lotions, and cover-ups. I’ve used mine as an overnight bag several times as well, when heading to the Casa Coquina Condo we renovated.

Patio Decor

Here’s just one more way to bring this time of year into your decor. Great ideas such as this one simply must be enjoyed and shared–super basic craft supplies (just a canvas), paired with a summery fabric.

And some tape. That’s it.  It doesn’t get any easier.

This temporary project is one of the greatest summer DIY projects due to its simplicity, low cost, and how easy it is to change it out later for every season.

I first used it when helping my son Eric take on his first condo flip, and I decorated this small outdoor screened porch on a small budget using Dollar Store Items.

And, this project isn’t just to be used outside. Here’s where I used it to help with staging this condo flip.

Outdoor Furniture and Summer Kitchen

Recently, I purchased some inexpensive outdoor furniture for the Casa Coquina Condo. I needed something that would fit comfortably on the outdoor porch, that looked good, and that didn’t cost much.

I found this great set on Amazon, which cost me somewhere around $200, and I loved it, so I wanted to share it with you.

Also, last year I completely redid my own summer kitchen. Here’s a look at the before and after–use the cool slider feature to see the change:

Here you can see the products I used in this transformation–I searched for weeks for the best products at the best prices and am thrilled with what I found and how much I saved!

Your Turn!

I hope that your summer is filled with parties, laughter, fun outdoor games, beach glass, ocean blues, and a fantastic summer wardrobe! And I hope you enjoyed these cute summer craft projects. They really just involve basic supplies and don’t take too much time. Many can be done with young children, or if you don’t want their little hands touching the sewing machine just yet then you can have them give their opinion on the fabrics and colors you choose. All of these are temporary projects and cute summer crafts, so it’s a great way to utilize a child’s creativity and get both younger children and older kids involved.

If you take on any of these summer DIY projects, please send me a photo so that I can showcase your work here for everyone to enjoy!

Have a wonderful summer and a beautiful patio!
